Celebrate Your Loved Ones Today

Jim, a longtime patient of mine came into the office a few weeks ago.  His wife has two months to live and is in home hospice.  They decided 6 months ago to book a cruise to Alaska, and God willing, will leave in a week.  Their family members are joining them for what will be a celebration of her life.  What Jim told me during that visit was so heartbreaking yet so full of inspiration.  We forget sometimes how to live life searching for what is good and to cherish what we have.  We forget to take a minute just to turn towards our partners or our children and simply say, “I love you.  I appreciate you.”
I’ve never heard any of my elderly patients exclaim in my office, “I wish I would have worked more in my life.”  Don’t wait too long to prioritize what is important to you.  Do what you are passionate about.  Be with the people you love.  As this song says, “Don’t wait too long…When your morning turns to light who be loving you by candlelight…time can slip away…sometimes you got to lose it all before you find your way.”  Let go my friends from what you wished or hoped your life would have been.  Let go of your failures or the fear of failing again.  We create new directions in our lives and the only way to move forward is not to continually look into our past.  Celebrate your life now.
